Principal's Letter ~ 11/21/14
Dear Peacham friends and families,
I’m tempted to say that “It’s been a quiet week here in Lake Wobegon…” however, the truth is that it’s been anything but that. Tuesday’s evacuation due to an electrical short circuit was based on a choice to err on the side of caution. The positive take-away for all is that our school, and especially our students, are very well prepared to react to challenging situations. We worked efficiently as a team making sure all were safe. Those drills paid off. The Peacham and Danville Fire Departments made sure there were no lingering effects from the short circuit. Their work is appreciated and never taken for granted. It was also heartening to have our good neighbors, the Kanes, provide an emergency place out of the bitter wind for our whole school! All’s well that ends well.
The CCSU curriculum work that our teachers have contributed to in the past will continue throughout the year. This means that about once a month your child will have a substitute teacher taking over while their teacher is working with other CCSU staff developing math, English language arts/Humanities, and science units aligned with the national Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards. Expectations for student mastery of these new standards will be reflected in a revised version of the Peacham Progress Reports. The report card revision process required unexpected additional time resulting in delayed distribution of those reports until Friday, Dec. 5. I apologize for the inconvenience, especially to students who are anxiously (?!) awaiting the results. Our holiday food drive is well under way. You can send in non-perishable items to add to our hallway table display until our holiday break. Can we top last year’s 100 items? Sure!
Cheers to all, Judy Ross
