Principal's Letter ~ 9/12/14
Dear Peacham School families and friends,
Our over-arching goal for the entire school year is to provide a well-rounded educational program to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of all our students so they can each reach their own personal bests. We have already collected significant amounts of benchmark data in math and literacy for most students to help us monitor and promote progress. The STAR Math and Reading online assessment tools give us immediate information based on Common Core standards. We will continue to use this model throughout the year as we identify needs, then provide targeted instruction or engaging enrichment for students all along the learning continuum. A new LEAP (Learn Explore Assess Progress) period tucked into our schedule right after lunch will provide the opportunity for small group instruction and activities led by various staff members with strengths matched to student needs. LEAP will begin Monday, 9/22.
Mr. Colosa has presented us with a good news/bad news dilemma yesterday. The good news is that we now have a huge number of students signed up for supplemental music lessons. Our instrumental instructional groups will include nearly 80% of potential 3-6 graders. That’s amazing since three years ago we only had 6 students participating! The bad news is that our school day is not quite long enough now to provide both classroom music lessons and instrumental instruction. This is a happy dilemma that we will consider as we move into budget planning for next year. In the meantime, Mr. C. is investigating creative ways to meet the needs of all musicians. Perhaps an afterschool Jazz band on Thursdays?
“Thank you” to Kitty Toll, Rick Scholes, and Nate Giroux for attending the recent school board meeting and sharing their expertise with all of us.

As much as we love Liz, we are looking for a permanent site coordinator beginning as soon as possible. Are you detail oriented, creative, energetic and truly like children? Contact Judy Ross at school for more information.

Announcing a Terrific Upcoming Event
Due to generous donations, Circus Smirkus is able to provide our school (at a minimal cost) with a week-long circus skills residency program during the last week of October. We will celebrate with an evening family performance starring our children. How great is this?!!!
